I’m sure you’ve all heard of the lingerie as outerwear trend by now. But what do you do when you love the idea, yet going out in your smalls seems a little too daring? Enter these nine brands making everything from skirts to coats, all with a lingerie-inspired twist.
Sometimes it’s as apparent as bra cups on a top or dress. Other times it’s something more subtle, like hook-and-eye closures or garter grips in place of the usual buttons and zips. And from decadent evening gowns to casual denim, there’s a lingerie-inspired look below for every occasion.
Amoralle is a brand in a constant state of flux. They debuted as a hosiery label named SockBox. Then they switched focus to lingerie. Their pieces are so opulent and magnificent it would be a shame to keep them hidden away in the boudoir. That’s perhaps why, lately, they’ve doubled down on lingerie-as-outerwear creations. You’ll find ultra-luxe robes, gowns, pajamas and more, all designed to be shown off to the world!
This luxury brand offers both lingerie and clothing with the same relaxed, understated elegance. Highlights include a sheer lace jacket, dressing-gown style trenches in satin or velvet, and semi-sheer jeans with a matching bralette.
Murmur is a luxury fashion brand that’s heavily inspired by lingerie. From a denim kimono to ultra-sheer dresses, they blur the line between what’s considered underwear and outerwear. Clothing with garter tabs, either working or just for show, is a recurring theme here.
Everyone knows this iconic luxury label. But did you know they offer ready-to-wear and jewelry alongside the lingerie? Including pieces such as corsets, catsuits, and beautiful dresses, the designs in the collection have a definite evening wear vibe. Expect lots of sheer detailing and unsubtle sex appeal. This lingerie-inspired outerwear is not for the faint of heart!
Independent designer Lirika Matoshi shot to fame with her crystal-encrusted fishnet tights. She’s since added lingerie, and more recently lingerie-inspired fashion. True to her original style, it’s mostly sheer pieces adorned with all manner of sparkly things.AGON Pajama Shirt & Pant Available in sizes XS-XL via For Restless Sleepers
This high-end brand specializes in clothing inspired by nightwear. You’ll find pajama-style suits and sets, plus robe-like dresses, in a range of vibrant prints.
Speaking of garter details, at Lalita you’ll find them incorporated into a range of lingerie and accessories. For underwear-as-outerwear dressing, check out the range of tank tops. They all feature shoulder straps that end with metal garter grips.
Here’s another name that’s synonymous with luxury lingerie. But did you know that La Perla recently began offering ready-to-wear too? Currently, all women’s clothing is on sale, so perhaps it has been a short-lived experiment that didn’t work out. But for now, you can find smart daywear and eveningwear pieces with a touch of lingerie styling. Think jackets with hook-and-eye closures, or tailored pants with matching bralettes.
This brand creates lingerie, swimwear, and outerwear, all with a ‘cool and casual’ vibe. The clothing line takes inspiration from its lingerie counterpart. You’ll find bustier-style tops and dresses galore, in materials from lace through to denim. There are also slinky satin slip dresses and plenty of sheer designs.
Do you know of any other lingerie-first brands that also dabble in outerwear? Or even ones, like For Restless Sleepers, that make lingerie-inspired clothing their specialty? Let me know in the comments below!
