A couple of months back Elisabeth wrote about the rise of high-neck bras and bralettes, and it’s a trend that’s permeating swimwear too.
It’s not exactly a new concept---it’s been around for a while in the realm of sporty and surf-ready swimwear. Because who wants to be worrying about a nip slip when you’re riding the waves? However, this season higher necklines are getting a more fashion-led makeover.
There are some good reasons to love high-neck bikinis. Firstly, there’s more room to show off a cool fabric print or to incorporate details such as crisscross lacing that doesn't fit on a little triangle top.
Secondly, more bikini means more sun protection. Your décolletage is particularly susceptible to sun damage. It’s an area that often gets a lot of rays but has a thinner layer of skin than on your arms and legs, so it’s easier to burn. A high neckline solves that problem if you don’t mind that you won’t tan there.
And finally, the popularity of high-necked bikinis right now means there are more options than ever for those who want a more modest look. Not everyone is into the plunging, here's-my-cleavage look. And with these bikinis, you can be covered and chic. Of course, there are sexier high-neck bikini options too; I’ve included a few styles with subtle and not-so-subtle cut-outs below.
Here are 16 of my favorite high-neck bikini sets to buy right now:
Are you a fan of the high-neck bikini? Or will you be sticking to your trusted ‘itsy bitsy teeny-weeny’ on the beach this year?
