If you love the glamour of Old Hollywood movies and wish that you could raid the closet of Ginger Rodgers, this column is for you.
In today’s increasingly casual society, it can be hard to indulge a love of high drama fashion and lingerie. Luckily, brides can give in to their dramatic side as much as they want! Your wedding is the perfect excuse to channel your inner Marilyn Monroe, Katherine Hepburn, or Rita Hayworth.
A few years ago, this look would have been hard to find if you were curvy. Luckily, lots of companies are now making pieces that cater to full-busted women and full-figured women. You’re not just stuck with the limited range of full bust bridal lingerie brands either---many loungewear companies cut on the bias and build in lots of princess seams naturally. If you know where to look, many luxury pieces may fit your curves better than you ever imagined.
Today I’m going over some of my favorites in bridal lingerie for brides who are wanting to splurge and channel their favorite classic starlet.
Harlow Slip by Oh Yes Celeste:
This line isn’t out until the fall, but it should be on your list if you’re having a fall or winter wedding. Luxurious stretch jersey fabric and stellar construction details provide incredible support for curves, and the full circle skirt sets this slip apart from the rest.
Vintage Gown by Tia Lyn:
I love Tia Lyn pieces unreservedly. They make a huge size range; their pieces last forever, and they fit and feel fantastic. As a bonus, they’re also always reasonably affordable. I love this gown, which is Tia Lyn’s take on Old Hollywood in a washable and wearable garment.
MORGAN Silk Pajama Set in Ivory by NK iMode:
If gowns aren’t your thing, there are still lots of luxe bridal options out there for you. These silk charmeuse pajamas are both classic and romantic while the mother of pearl buttons are the perfect finishing touch.
Eleanor Almond Draped Back Gown by Harlow & Fox:
Harlow & Fox is one of the few companies making seriously luxurious pieces for full-busted women. Their pieces are designed for curvy figures up to a G cup and use some of the finest materials that the lingerie industry has to offer. This classic and sumptuous gown is a perfect example of the wonderful pieces that the brand has to offer.
Mira Classic Slip in Ivory by Fortnight Lingerie:
Fortnight doesn’t make a huge size range, which is why you don't hear about them more. However, they do make some pretty revolutionary wireless pieces that go up to a UK F cup. If you’re looking for an elegant and light piece that will provide real support, you can’t go wrong with this glamorous ivory slip. Free yourself of underwires and lounge in comfort!
Peach and Naturelle Cassandra Dressing Gown by Boudoir by D’Lish:
For those who want to go all out, you really can’t do better than an opulent dressing gown by Boudoir by D’Lish. When Dita von Teese is a fan, you know you’re in the right place! These used only to be available via Ebay auction, but Catherine has now launched a site that includes made to measure options as well as gowns that are currently available. The Peach and Naturelle version has “bride” written all over it. For a real indulgence, pair these with her fabulous mink bunny slippers. If I ever win the lottery, those slippers will be my first purchase.
Zoe Blanc Silk Robe by Dear Bowie:
Dear Bowie is one of my favorite robe companies. This Zoe Robe takes the basic white silk bridal robe and elevates it with stunningly detailed leaf embroidery the hem and back. While Dear Bowie isn’t specifically a curve-friendly company, their designs are cut beautifully and work well with curvy figures.
Swan Lake Gown by Christine Lingerie:
Christine Lingerie is another company that doesn’t advertise how curve friendly their pieces are. Expert draping and smart seaming make this piece perfect for curvy figures. I love this light blue as a bridal alternative to white! For a stunning set, add the Swan Lake Kimono from the same collection. I own a kimono from one of their previous collections, and it is one of my most treasured pieces.
Ashley Graham Seductive Chemise with Lace:
I’ve been impressed with every piece from the Ashley Graham collection that I’ve tried so far. While they don’t offer the ironclad support that some full bust brands do, they do offer great styles at reasonable price points that are pretty identical to what you can find in core size ranges. That, in itself, makes them somewhat revolutionary. This white mesh and lace chemise is romantic, modern and a very nice price.
Juliet Harness Bra by Playful Promises:
This bra fuses Old Hollywood glamour with modern BDSM inspiration in a way that only a truly unique brand like Playful Promises can do. This bra is perfect for the bride who wants something a little less traditional and a lot more edgy to have fun in on her honeymoon.
Jezebel Rachel Corset Laced Soda Blue Babydoll
Another something blue for the bride who is tired of white! This retro style babydoll provides both shape and comfort, which makes it ideal for sleeping or lounging in. The keyhole cutout back provides extra style and sex appeal.
Which of these full bust bridal lingerie looks catch your eye? What’s your honeymoon style?
